Troubleshooting audio and reconnection

Most audio problems in a workshop come down to a blocked microphone, a phone too far from the talkers, or a dropped connection. Here is how to fix each one fast.

A table phone with the audio pill not lighting up

If a table is not being captured, the audio pill is the fastest tell, it glows green when the phone hears voice. If it stays dark, the cause is almost always one of three things: the microphone is blocked, the phone is too far from the talkers, or the connection dropped. Work through them in that order.

A dark pill means the table is not being heard. Work through the causes below.

No sound from a table

A dark audio pill usually means the microphone is blocked. Once a phone blocks the mic, reopening the page will not ask again, the permission has to be changed in settings. On iPhone: Settings → Safari → Microphone → Allow. On Android: the browser's Site settings → Microphone → Allow. Then tap Try again on the phone.

Audio is weak or muffled

If the pill glows only faintly, the phone is probably too far from the group or covered up. Move it to the middle of the table, clear of bags and papers, and keep it face up. A quick five-second sound check per table before you start catches most of these, see test audio before a workshop.

A phone dropped or disconnected

If a phone loses its connection or someone closes the page, you can bring it back without losing the group. See swap or reconnect a phone for the full recovery.

On iOS, Safari must have microphone permission for the site, or the phone stays connected but silent.
