Test microphones before a workshop

Confirm every table's phone can actually hear the room before you start, using the audio pill that glows the moment it picks up speech.

A phone screen showing the green Ljud funkar pill glowing while someone speaks

The fastest way to test microphones before a workshop is to watch each table phone's audio pill: it glows green and reads Ljud funkar ("Audio working") the instant it picks up someone's voice, so you can confirm every table in seconds without opening a single settings menu. This guide covers reading the pill correctly and what to do about the phones that do not light up.

What the pill shows you

Once a phone has joined and been granted microphone access, its screen shows a pill that reacts live to sound, frame by frame, there is no separate test mode or button to press. It has three states: it glows and reads Ljud funkar while it is picking up audio, switches to Ljud av ("Audio off") if the group has been muted from the workspace, and stays hidden while the phone is still connecting or waiting on a permission prompt. The first time it detects a few consecutive frames of real speech, it also shows a one-time confirmation, Vi hör dig! ("We can hear you!"), so whoever is holding the phone gets clear feedback that the mic is actually working, not just connected.

Run the check, table by table

1
Confirm every phone has joined
In the workspace, each connected table shows up as its own group card. A group still connecting shows a connecting indicator instead of audio controls.
2
Ask each table to say a few words
Have someone at the table speak normally, at the volume they will actually use during the workshop.
3
Watch for the pill to glow
On the phone itself, the audio pill should light up green within a second or two of speech. In the workspace, the group card also reflects live audio.
4
Fix any phone that stays dark
If the pill never lights up, the microphone is most likely blocked or not yet granted, see the next section.
Do this sound check before you press Start on the meeting, not after. Groups can join and confirm their audio while the session is still idle, so a dead mic never costs you workshop time.

When a phone will not light up

If the pill stays hidden or the phone shows a permission prompt that will not go away, the browser has not been granted microphone access yet, tap Allow on the prompt. If the prompt never appeared, or was dismissed, the phone needs to recover permission at the OS level; reopening the page will not ask again automatically:

- iPhone (Safari): open Settings → Safari → Microphone, choose Allow, then tap Försök igen ("Try again") on the phone. - Android: open the browser's Site settings → Microphone → Allow, then tap Försök igen. - Desktop: click the lock icon in the address bar, allow the microphone, then tap Försök igen.

If the microphone is allowed but still silent, check that no other app on that phone, a call, a voice memo app, another tab, is already holding the microphone.

A phone that shows connected but never glows is the single most common reason a table goes untranscribed. Never assume a mic works just because the phone joined, wait for the pill.

FAQ

Do I need a fixed number of seconds of silence or speech to test a mic?

No. The pill reacts continuously to real audio, so a few normal sentences from someone at the table is enough to confirm it, there is no timer or countdown built in.

Can I test audio before the meeting officially starts?

Yes. Groups can connect and light up their audio pill while the session is still idle. Pressing Start only begins transcription and the timeline, it does not affect the mic check.

The pill lit up once but I am not sure it is still working. What do I check?

Ask the table to speak again, the pill reacts live, not just once. Persistent silence after that usually means the microphone got muted or another app grabbed it mid-session.
